Slovakia’s transport ministry announced on 16 October 2026 that it had recognised provisional type approval for Tesla Full Self-Driving (Supervised). The ministry says drivers remain fully responsible and the system monitors their attention. It explicitly rules out treating the car as fully autonomous. [1]
Tesla’s 21 October quarterly update names Slovakia, Croatia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic as four additional approvals since the end of June. The company reports availability in nine EU countries. Its footnote requires active driver supervision and says the vehicle is not autonomous. These are Tesla’s reported approvals and availability figures, rather than an independently checked country-by-country map or confirmation of eligibility for a particular owner’s car. [2]
The Dutch vehicle authority, RDW, issued the original approval. In its 17 June account, it said it had assessed manufacturer data and conducted its own tests, including more than 1,000 test runs. RDW also described monthly reporting after approval, replacing its usual annual frequency. That continuing oversight allows further investigation or measures if needed. The statement is a regulator’s account of its assessment and monitoring, not an independent measurement of comparative accident risk. [3]
Finland’s regulator, Traficom, explained the wider procedure in June: member states can recognise the Dutch provisional approval before the European Commission’s authorisation process is completed. Its account distinguishes national recognition from the committee decision on authorisation. That provides procedural context for the Slovak step. The June document is not evidence of Finland’s position in October, and an anticipated vote date in an older explanation cannot establish that a vote subsequently happened. [4]
For UK readers, neither the Slovak notice nor the EU procedure is a British approval record. They do not establish permissions for a particular vehicle elsewhere. This report makes no finding about a British application or current UK availability. [1,4]
